Four Types of Fuel & its Purposes to Know

While buying a car, I bet you would have definitely missed this topic on a discussion. In the excitement of buying a car, mileage and the other details including finance will grab your attention. Most of the customers fail to focus on fuels that require keeping your car running seamlessly for a longer period. Under every car’s bonnet, a couple of reservoirs are filled with fluids and hoses. Such car parts have different purposes.

Concentrating on the fluid levels and changing them whenever necessary is essential. Fluids are crucial for every car or vehicle, and they help increase your car’s longevity and enhance your driving experience. The vehicle will operate drastically poorly when it doesn’t get engine oil, transmission oil, coolant, etc. Acquaint yourself with the veritable nest of fluid reservoirs, and maintain your car’s shape and safety. For that, you'll have to discuss the primary fluids to ensure your vehicle runs at an ultimate level.

We're here on that! This blog explains all that you want to know about fuel & its purposes. Let's get a full tank!

Engine Oil - Being one of the crucial fluids

  • The engine parts of the car spin infinity times. The engine oil lubricates them and keeps away friction.
  • The engine components use oil to run smoothly; naturally, the oil gets dirty.
  • Most cars have dipsticks to check the level of oil and are easy to use. Open your car’s bonnet, find and pull out the dipstick, and wipe it down.
  • Insert and pull it out again to check the oil level. You can see a maximum-minimum mark on the dipstick. In case the oil mark is below the minimum, add more instantly.
  • Moreover, a minimum mark might also mean the oil is leaking, which, if left unnoticed, can cause severe issues.
  • Before jumping into the process, ensure the engine is off so the oil can settle down. Wait for 10 minutes for it to cool off.

Engine Coolant Fluid

  • If at all your car’s oil color turns milky, it conveys that the coolant fluid is leaking. With all the spinning of engine parts, a large amount of combustion heat is produced.
  • A coolant or antifreeze is present to absorb the heat and dissipates it through a radiator. To ensure your car’s ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) operates at an optimal heat level, maintain the fluid level of the coolant tank.
  • Flush and replace the coolant system every 70,000 kilometers, but do not touch the coolant when the engine is still hot. It can cause severe burns. Wait for an hour.

Brake Fluid

  • It's a very commonly known fluid, but some might not know that all modern vehicles, especially luxury cars, come with hydraulic brakes.
  • These brakes contain a specialized fluid that connects the brakes to the pedal. The brake fluid moves through hoses and chambers, pressuring the pads to rotors clamp to slow down the speed.
  • Braking performance cannot be the same all the time. It may be due to air filling in the chamber lines, water seeping in brake lines, and fluid leaking.
  • Always improve the brake performance by checking the level and color of the brake fluid using a dipstick.
  • If the fluid is contaminated or at the lowest level, replace it with the finest quality fluid.

Power Steering Fluid

  • Most exotic and luxury cars have electric steering systems. These steering wheels have a hydraulic system with a power steering fluid.
  • Older cars still maintain traditional power steering. When the steering system is hard to turn or generally feels heavy, it means your power steering system is low on fluid levels.
  • Use a dipstick and repeat the process like with any other fluids. If the fluid level is low, fill it up.
  • Use the right type of fluid designed for the power steering system to avoid damage. If you are filling the fluid more frequently, a leak might need to address the issue soon.

Conclusion

The reason for focusing on fluids is to give you a better understanding of the vehicle you are about to own. Fuel is what your vehicle needs the most, and you keep a good check on it. Don't neglect the car fluids. They are equally important. Make a schedule, so you don’t forget fuel changes.
